Board Games

  • Go

    • Go feels like magic to play and be good at. Much more than almost any other game, I get better at it by building up gut intuitions about what works and what doesn’t, and I find that I can’t articulate my knowledge to other people to make them better at the game. It’s like I’m building an LLM in my head with

  • Chess

  • Risk

    • On the opposite end, Risk is great because it’s so stupid and random. It’s basically a way to spend six hours with your friends where you’re mostly talking about and focused on other stuff, and have something to fidget with (the game) and occassionally get fired up at each other about.

Video games

I only play video games on special occassions with friends when they’re basically like playing a board game together.

  • Factorio

  • Age of Empires

Games that were important to me growing up

  • Roller Coaster Tycoon

  • Age of Mythology

  • Runescape
